Mr. Marcus Ramirez
City Year AmeriCorps

2203 23rd Ave S, Suite 101

Seattle, WA 98144

Dear Mr. Ramirez:

As a service-oriented graduate from the University of Washington Bothell, I am writing in regards to the volunteer position available with City Year AmeriCorps. I have considered being a part of the AmeriCorps team since graduating high school when a friend introduced me to the organization, and feel that now is the perfect time for me to contribute by applying the knowledge and skills I’ve gained in the past years.

The City Year AmeriCorps philosophy of promoting diversity and equity while creating a community of future leaders through education appeals to me because I believe high-quality education and a compassionate community are the foundation of a better future. In a rapidly changing world, I find that it is crucial to equip the children who will shape the future of our country with the awareness and confidence to foster success while making them feel cared for in a supportive environment.

In my years as a university student majoring in Global Studies and Community Psychology, I have learned about how best to approach inequalities in society through interventions that promote populational wellness. I have also worked professionally as a teacher and as a volunteer tutor with pre-Kindergarten and elementary school children in a marginalized community. I believe these experiences have shaped me into a more compassionate, patient, community-oriented leader with the knowledge and skills to contribute to promoting the organization's philosophy. In my experiences, I also learned that every child deserves to reach their full potential, and connecting to the students drives my passion for working as an educator. By partaking in the City Year program, I am seeking to continue developing these qualities and fill my days with the joy and surprise that children bring into my life daily.

I look forward to speaking with you to discuss the opportunity for me to contribute to the program. Please feel free to contact me at juliav65@uw.edu or (224) 572-3662 and I will be glad to provide additional information or references for my application. I also plan to reach out to you again via email in two weeks. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Julia Vogel
